Outstanding!

Why is it so rough and so crude? Pipes were prized possessions and are almost always very well made and highly polished.

That's a pretty rough looking pipe for soapstone. Whats the history on it. It looks like it took a acid bath.

Nope. Those holes don't look drilled - it all looks very crude. Nothing about it looks correct.

Here's the story I got. This piece was found at a detecting club hunt. On the top of a mountain. While digging a signal, this was in the hole that was dug. The person that found it thought it had a strange shape, so she hung onto it. It was posted on the other forum to see if anyone could ID it. I wasn't there, so I can't verify the story, and don't know enough about Native American artifacts to comment on it myself. Posted it here because if it is authentic, I thought you would appreciate it. Thanks for the looks.

It has all the ear markings of a MiqMaq Eagle pipe to me, there were probably other minerals with in the pipe that have long ago rotted away leaving it with a very rough look, if it was found on top of a hill it could very well have been "Offered to Mother Earth" during a vision quest type of visit, VERY COOL, and I would say with a 95% certainty that it is indeed a man made pipe. AWESOMENESS!!!!

it almost looks like fossilized coral.....odd pipe material what ever it is.

I think you mean Mi'kmaq or MicMac and I believe you are incorrect. I have seen hundreds of Pipes and never have a I saw one that rough or crude. My guess is someones art project or a Pot Pipe. Not ancient and not an artifact. By the way, I agree that it is man made, just not by ancient man. Probably in the last 50 years.

This thread you all replying to is almost a year long dead.

Tnmountains; wish you could be more explicit rather than so ambiguous , with due respect M. T.,thanks
