Okay out in in SE Texas there is some of the most amazing hard packed clay I have ever seen! This says something considering I grew up in central AZ. I have inquired before and am looking for the general opinion so here is goes.

With as hard and dense as the ground is here(from 2-6" before you hit solid), should I even be looking deeper than say 4"? For one the obvious ridiculous effort it requires to get more than that into the ground, and then there is my thoughts on what may or may not settle into or below this kind of soil. A coin or ring would obviously get washed into the dirt, but how far would it dig into that kind of soil in say 100 years or would it at all? I know there are movements and changes in our soil constantly, but it seems things like what we are looking for would slide on this near rock like density instead of sink into or under.

Am I crazy, lost in the sauce, just absolutely mistaken?

Secondly, on an ACE 250 where should I start for on sensitivity for not shooting into this depth?
