Solid Box of Half Dollars

Yes, I would save a roll or two. Plus, my local non brick and mortar coin dealer will buy the occasional roll of Uncirculated NIFCs for a slight premium ($15-$20) per roll.

Sorry to hear about that box! :occasion14:

I'm seeing more solid 2018 boxes of DIMES lately if that helps ease the pain any.

Get some plastic coin flips, and print off some little cards to put in with them that say "Brilliant Uncirculated ______" and sell them at a premium. New collectors eat that stuff up.

I got two solid boxes a few weeks ago. My next order was back to normal. I order two boxes a week

I do 2 per week as well.
I did not expect demand for halfs in my area would ever require this.
I remember reading a few years back on here that 1996 was the go to year when the Fed had to shore up supply.
The way I understand NIFC is that the US mint is the sole issuer of todays half dollar coin.
That must be incorrect, as this was a Loomis labelled box, which has always been the coin supplier.

Im hoping to never see another!

yes and no (i hope I understand this right). The mint mints all coins nifc or not. They haven't sent out halves for circulation since 2001. They sell the halves direct.

However, my guess is the demand for halves was less than expected this year and sent the surplus out for circulation. Remember That loomis, brings, Garda or Dunbar do not make the coin. The U.S. Mint mints the coin and sends it to these carriers to distribute

Dangit. Another one.
That is 2 in two weeks.
Very strange, considering I have never seen even one before this.
I have a standing order of 2 boxes per week.
The other box this week yielded 2 40%ers. Last week was a very respectable 9 40's and 2 90% JFK's.
It would be a nice little vein without the brand new Fed dump.
Sure. I look for a blank or clipped planchet, or maybe a die clash or rotated die. Not much of that happening, though.

You tried its gonna happen

I got 2 more myself yesterday... This sucks

It could also be some bulk buyer looking for high grades to slab. This many seems less likely, because of the cost differential after buying/sorting/dumping.

Any guesses on when we will start seeing any new denom of 2019 coins? Is there going to be any mint changes, just like the 2009 cents were, in the works?
I guess April 1, 2019.
What's your gut guess?

I never realized how many cents are minted. This says more than half of all coins minted last year were cents.
.
That's a whole lotta Zincolns!

The plague of 2018 continues.
Two boxes today; one was normal circulation, with no silver. There were 15 clad proofs, however.
The second, while not solid 2018, contained over 400 of them. There was not a roll that did not have at least one of them. Also, there were no solid rolls of 2018's.
Also in the box was a lonely 1969, which got me on the board for 2019.
Hopefully the 2018's are passing through the system. These things have been banging around, so are not truly uncirculated. They are sharp, though.

All that means is that another CRHer got the solid box and dumped it into circulation.

Last year I think I got 3 or 4 solid boxes of 2017s. All were in the flat one layer box, Loomis I think. When I get the taller two layer they have always been average circulated. I have asked my teller to only order the two layer boxes but she said she has no control on what is shipped.

I get the flat Loomis boxes here. What I don't understand is that I get 2 boxes per week.
There are 2 tier boxes available at US Bank, but they are more than half marked coins. I take a lot of dumps at my local casino, which uses US. They are not a good option for me.
One is always normal, with no 2018's. For the past 3 weeks, the other is infested with 2018's.
I will be glad to get to the end of it.
Did your 2017's disappear after getting the solid boxes, or did you continue to see quantities of them mixed in for awhile?

I got two more solid 2018 boxes yesterday. This makes 6 solid 2018d boxes in 4 weeks - 6 of 8 boxes..
