001.webp002.webp003.webp004.webpmy pops came across these 22 cal.Smith&Wesson boot pistols,One looks civil war period, and the chrome plated one I think is 1880's.but I am not sure.Talk about finding some neat stuff the lucky guy..We are still studying them, but if someone knows anything about them we would like to hear from you. the one with the octagon barrel has initials on the bottom of the butt W.D,which i thought was pretty neat.

The revolver at the top of pic #1 looks like a 1st Model .22 revolver. The one below it looks like a #2 Army model, but I thought they were only in .32 caliber.

Are they recent acquisitions, or have they been in the family for a while?

unless the army model has a diffrent cylinder than what is on it" I think?they are22cal.the cylinders are interchangeable, one cylinder from each gun fits the other.my dad picked them up somewhere. They are some neat little guns.can't diggum like that. I cant even dig a rusty example of one.

Using the top left photo, the upper pistol is Smith & Wesson Model No. 1 Third Issue Revolver (Flayderman #5G-010). These were made between 1868-1881. Reportedly 131,163 were made. The lower pistol is a Smith & Wesson Model No. 1 Second Issue Revolver (Flayderman #5G-007 or -008, depending whether it has the 1860 date stamping or not). It was made between 1860-1868. About 117,000 were reportedly made.
