I'm not much into collecting artifacts unless I'm out on my farm. The farm seems to have an arrow factory on it but since we don't plow as deep as we use to the search has become more difficult.

I usually just wait for a rain and go out to check the next day. I think I walked around about 45 minutes to pick up this flint collection. One stone is just a rock. A couple are obvious and the rest is just shwag.

Welcome to TNET! Looks like you have a couple of nice points there. Sure would like to see the white one, second one down, in the center row, by itself in a close-up, showing both sides. Please!

Looks to me like you've got a good place to hunt. Nice finds!

I'll try and get some more detailed pictures of all the finds I have. I don't have many with me though.

Yeah, it's kind of a known place. We get some requests once in a while to look there. Unfortuantely since methods of plowing are less evasive these days the big ones don't get turned up as much as they use to. Then again they don't get chopped up either. :)

Welcome to tnet. Looking forward to seeing more of your finds

Nice finds. A couple long freezes should help bring those bigger ones up for the spring.

Hey Gator,
I do alot of metal detecting and never understood how I can find a 1988 quarter 7 inches down and just a few feet away, find a indian head penny just couple inches down. Any good info/studies I could read to help me understand really how this works?

Love those points, thanks for the pics!!

It will really depend on the dynamics of where you are hunting. Everything from roots, water movement if any.. soil densities and even if the coin is on its side or flat can all make a difference.

Ok here's all my favorite finds.

The axe is cool but not found by me. It just slipped in there.

Thanks for the photo's.

IMG_0047.webpNot exactly sure on this one's identity.

IMG_0013.webp This one looks similar to a Agate Basin.

Thanks again for sharing!

The first one looks like it was broken in an odd way most probably by a plow disk. The knife was in an area that is not a very good looking area. I wasn't even looking for arrow heads when I saw it on the ground. It was between the property line right in the road access before the gate to a field. I was looking at deer tracks and there were all kinds of hedge apple leaves on the ground and this leaf looked wider than all the other hedge apple leaves so I picked it out of the mud and it turned out that it wasn't a leaf at all! Even though the tip is chipped and maybe the back copped although I have seen them that way in pictures I think it is my best find ever. The craftsmanship is nothing short of magnificent. :)

Very nice pictures. The white one might not be completely finished {preform}. I have a spot I hunt and the leaves are black and so are the arrowheads. It is very hard to find them so I feel your pain. I am glad you saved the blade. Its a fine one. Looks like you have a good spot by the way. HH

Yeah, that is a possibility, I've found quite a few unfinished looking specimens. As far as the leaves are concerned, it isn't an issue in my normal hunting spot, and finding that one was pure luck, I mean I really wasn't looking for anything artifact related and never would have expected something like that especially in that particular location as there is almost no flint there. My normal spot has all kinds of flakes in the soil. It's on a bluff about 500 yards from a river so it might just be a really old wash. If the river got really really flooded like a once in a 1000 year flood the water may reach there. haha The bluff constantly erodes so things get exposed and collect in that particular area on a fairly regular basis. I'm sure 1000s of artifacts have been found there. Near by was a small mound. It was dug out in the 1930's. I think they found one skeleton in it along with some trade pipes and stuff. The mound is now a pond. I checked it out when it was dry, looks like they layered the bottom with river rock but I did not plan on disturbing it any more than it was.
