Greetings to All,

Well, we're finally in the throws of summer, how I longed to get to this time.

Foolhardy me, I was thinking that I would have many long summer days to go out and spend time detecting.

Unfortunately, My wife, and a 21 million dollar construction project at work, for which I'm the project manager, helped slap me back to reality.

Obviously, my hunting time has not been what I had hoped for this summer.
None the less, I have managed to get out a few times and on my last excursion I made up for lost opportunities and did pretty well, at least by my standards.

In particular, I found my very first, and second, large cents.
I thought I had found a Kennedy half dollar when I first pulled the coin out of the ground, it was encapsulated in a thick crust of crud. I did what I could in the field to clean it off a little, at which point I quickly realized I hadn't found a Kennedy but rather something unusual instead.

Not more than a foot away I got the signal for the second one. When I pulled it out of the ground my mind started to think that the coins must be reproductions. What could the odds be that I'd find two large cents so close together in the ball field of a school that couldn't have been built more than 35 or 40 years ago. But they were real and I was very excited to have found them! I plopped the coins into the small coin pocket of my jeans and continued to hunt the field.

I managed to come up with a few other nice items from the days hunt as well, including a woman's 14k gold ring with an onyx inlay, a silver elephant ring that my girls think is cute, a sterling silver spoon that has an inscription on it that says "Baby May" and that has a Pat. Date of 1894, a set of wings, a mini toy car and finally a 1984 worlds fair medallion.

Well, That's all folks, happy hunting!

Johnny Cache

I like the way you showed the old map with the new. That field may produce some really nice keepers. Way to go on those fantastic coins!

Ditto.
What a cool post. Congrats on your finds. Love the aerial view and old map. Outstanding.
