Hey all. I got these from an old house we are cleaning out today. I was told they were old cranks for an old vehicle...Any ideas on the exact use of these and age prhaps? thanks!!:hello:

Maybe it's old lug nut cranks?

Cool find But they look like the old shaker from a coal burner

Huh. That's interesting. Stinks though. Was really hoping they were from a vehicle to crank the engine.

Is there anything written on them? words, letters. numbers? they could be hand cranks for engines......jmho.....................HH

Lost Hunter nailed it. One of my many part time jobs in college was helping remove old coal fired furnaces and replace with modern forced air gas furnaces. The heavy iron in those old furnaces was impressive. I recognize the cranks. Put many of them in the scrap sale truck.

An engine crank usually had two notches at an angle on the working end. Acted as a safety clutch to keep you from spinning around when the engine started. Hopefully ... <<lol>>. Also engine cranks were never a square thing on the end.

This is one style:

Yup, and with engine cranks, they have a handle that rotates so you don't have the let the metal turn in your palm.
