I was looking for some papers on my desk, and decided to take a couple of pictures of some random pieces lying around.
This first picture are some misc. bifurcates from Indiana, mostly personal finds from the 80's. The three points in the lower left are Fox Valley points from a site in Allen County, In. The other four are from Whitley County, In. and are made from material from Ohio.
This next picture are two of my favorite points. The first one is an archaic point I picked up in Oldham Co., Ky. I lived in Ky for 5 years and this was the best point I found, it looks like patinated Sonora to me. There is a nasty chip on the reverse side that shows the blue material. The other piece is a Heavy Duty from Whitley Co. In I found when I was a kid, made from Flintridge.
This handful of points are some recent mailbox finds, mostly San Patrice points from Louisiana, and two Daltons from Louisiana. I've got about 20 more of these in a frame somewhere, I think they are one of the cooler little paleo types to be found!
This is a little Obsidian nose ring or lip ring. Most of the time we only see chipped obsidian, but the people in Mexico and Central America made some very neat pieces by grinding and polishing obsidian.
Finally, this is a gourd bottle found in a cenote-like well from the Dominican Republic. We found several fragmentary gourd bottles that were engraved and carved, but of course the plain one was the one that survived in the best condition...
