Good luck to you as well and thank you

Was hoping you would chime in

Those are some awesome shell artifacts for the both of you. I like the way they were made into tools. I found 2 pieces of shell fragments the other day, after looking them over very carefully I figured they're from conch shell. Both are getting "chalky".

Thank you Gatorboy and Tomclark! Amazing finds! I love this thread! thank you both so much for posting these.

Hey Tom.. those rectangular pieces third row from bottom ... are they net mesh gauges?

GB, that's what I think they are, net guages, can't see any other use for them except maybe to smooth pottery and they don't show that kind of wear. These are the only two I've found, other than broken pieces, LOL. Those two are highly valued by me! People who don't find a lot of shell miss a LOT of broken pieces that are worked. The bit ends of adzes, edges of shell knives, even plummets with the grooved top worn/broke off. The most often missed are clamshell anvils/hammers/choppers..to most people they just look like old damaged clamshells. Just like lithics, people have to just look for the work and once they see it they are off and running. LOL I have boxes of the brokes, hopefully before I go to the great beyond I'll try to see if any of them fit together! The sites I hunted had mostly Duvals, a few hernandos, a bunch of Sarasota's and a few pinellas's

Here's a friend's site that has some other info and some pics on Manasota (Timucua at the edge of Calusa territory..)
FLORIDA SHELL IMPLEMENTS

IMHOP shell tools are WAY undervalued. It would behoove some to purchase them when they can (if they buy!!) to add to their diverse collections. I do specialize somewhat in shell items.

Man I wanna go hunting! GatorBoy will tell ya, we can look at a beach/eroding midden that's loaded with shells and shell pieces and still see artifacts right away. Similar to gravel bar hunting I guess! Eyes and brain learn to pick out worked surfaces and familiar pieces. Love it.

I agree whole heartedly. Thanks for the links I have been enjoying aboriginalantiquities for a while. This reminded me I had a question for you. Can you explain these little guys?

WOW! I am so glad I asked you two to post pictures. What a treasure trove! I am learning so much! Thank you both for sharing your collection and knowledge!

Your welcome...and its more like thank you! We don't get the chance a whole lot to show and tell with the shell stuff. Its underapreciated I think.

They even made micro lithics

What was this item used for in the third picture from the left. was it a scoop or spoon type instrument?

I'm not sure what one you mean because I'm on android app. It's set up different
