Yesterday I happened to spot an empty old house (1935) for sale a block off Main St USA. After talking with neighbors and using the tax records website I was able to come up with a phone # and also gain permission. I figured since today was supposed to be the "coolest" day of the week at a frosty 95 degrees I had better get out and hit it. My Shamwow underwear did a fine job most of the day. :tongue3:
I started out great within the first 10 minutes scoring a couple silver dimes in the same hole. Unfortunately that was about the highlight of the yard. :laughing9: I was told there was a gold ring lost in the back yard many years ago, but I found two large bottle/trash areas that kind of killed the mood. :(
I was glad to at least have the chance to knock the dust off the ol' Silver Umax waiting for cooler weather this fall.
My finds were:
*1956 Rosie
*1943 Merc
*1928-56 Wheats
*Silver pin (real silver) - Any ideas what it is supposed to symbolize? :dontknow:
*Pine State Creamery token- Good for 3 cents. (My favorite find of the day) ;D
*Beat up FOB
*Padlock, spoon, watch, etc.
*Three small glass bottles buried 1/2 way in the dirt

Thanks for looking Folks & Happy Birthday to Quindy!!! (He's 72 today) :occasion15: :occasion18: :occasion13: :occasion16:

Cool stuff...love the 4 digit phone number. You should play the pick 4.

Thanks for posting.

Your Captain's bars could be Lieutenant's bars if they belonged to a naval officer. Here's Wiki's rank breakout (scroll to bottom): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force_officer_rank_insignia#Past_insignia

I joined the service back in 1984 and we used clutch pin fasteners by then: http://www.thepinpeople.com/attachments/customlapelpins/

I don't know when the transition from the older style fastener that you have on your pin occurred, but I suspect it happened around the WWII timeframe.

This last link may or may not be of help--but it's an interesting history of military insignia nonetheless:

Some really nice finds you have there,Hope you get the chance to get back out there once again,Those captain bars alone tell me its worth a second go at the site,Great Job!! :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumright:

GG,
Fantastic info. Thanks so much for the ID. I'm texting the property owner now. She said her uncle that lived there was in the service. I'm waiting to hear back now on which service & rank he was. It would be neat to return this to him if he is still around.
Thanks again,
Doug

Well, it turns out the 3 cent Pine State token was listed on the token website, but they were in need of and actual image of one.
I was able to contribute by adding a few photos of mine. :headbang:

I think I'm going to buy one of those umbrella hats and mount a battery operated fan in it. ;D
I drank water like crazy the whole day and was wringing out my headband numerous times.
Good luck,
Doug

Thanks Dave.
I spoke to the owner of the property. She said those bars would have been her uncles, but he passed away two years ago. :(
I'm going to give all the relics to her today.

Way to add information to the library of the internet! Now someone else in Raleigh will find a 3c token and there will be a picture there. Cool.

And speaking of cool, why don't we all pack up and go out to San Fran with our Tnet buddy there, He had blue skies and 70 degrees. FIELD TRIP!. No need to wait for winter.

Let me know if you need help finding the Gold and where to get the Sham Wow underwear.

Were you using a jack hammer or pick-ax to dig with in this dry weather?
