Well I haven't been posting many of my hunts with Baldingboy lately because we really haven't had much to post.
Lastnight BB had found us a place to hunt where the owner found a "half-dime" with a cheap detector. So per his usual BB started telling me two weeks ago about how incredible this place was going to be to hunt! Where have I heard that before?
So I met up with BB after work and he tells me we cannot detect the place until 6 PM (1.5 hours later than when we met up). When I asked him why he just mumbled something about going over the fence, bolt cutters and police.
So we decided to hunt a local church ground that had some CW activity in the past and I found a bunch of really cool CW era Aluminum soda cans, pull tabs and a new dime and a couple of pennies. BB managed to find a silver and what I believe is possibly a CW relic. I'll leave that to him to describe once he researches it a little. About an hour into the hunt a guy across the street starts yelling at me and waving a sledge hammer at me. Being that I have a little common sense, more than BB leads you all to believe, I decided I better find out what the gentleman wanted. Turns out he was questioning whether I had permission to hunt the church lot. I told him I did and gave him the name of the person that gave me permission, he had already called the person before I even told him who it was, and accused me of vandalism!
After I introduced myself and talked to him for a few minutes the pastor called and confirmed with him that we had permission. Then the guy proceeds to tell me about some property he owns that has a log cabin on it that was built in the 1820s along with two barns! And asked me and BB if we would like to detect that property.
Of course we did the only thing self-respecting detectorists would do, we told him we would have to think about it...
We got directions to the place and then it was time to go to BB's hot spot.
Well to make a long story short we drove to the home where BB had gotten pemission to hunt. We started detecting and BB pulls out a little car, then another, then another and the BEAST just wasn't working at all. Too much Iron in the ground. So I switched to the 8 inch ExCelerator coil and boy am I glad I did! Five minutes after I switched I got a weird signal in the nickle range and dug down 5 inches and found my first WAR NICKEL!!! A 1944 P I know to a lot of you that's a big yawner but it's one more goal off my list!!!
A few minutes later I got another good signal and dug down 4 inches and pulled out a 1919 Merc!!! Man was I having fun now. I looked over and BB had the backhoe off the back of his truck digging a hole deep enough to bury a body in!
The landowner looked out the window and then came out with a shootgun!!!
Well BB didn't see anything wrong with digging such a hole but the landowner "convinced" him to see the error of his ways. So I walked over with the Beast and helped him find the dime at two inches in the side of the hole.
I then got a funky signal and dug the turret cover from a toy tank. We moved around to the back of the house and I was about to curse BB for finding all the little cars when I got a good signal and dug my purple Tootsie toy! My first ever! Then it was a wheat peny and finally I found a 1941 silver quarter.
I also found a bullet that I don't know anything about.
I know that to a lot of you out there digging 1800s coins all the time these finds are unremarkable but I had a great hunt and BB and I both ended up with 5 good finds each last night. So it was lots of fun. Thanks for reading.
Oh yeah, the half-dime turned out that the home owner had found a Merc, half-dime, hah yeah right!

Glad you got to get out and get some swinging done and find some goodies! ~hugs~
I usually soak mine in amonia for about 5-10 minutes. Usually helps a lot with the cleaning.
