Some sort of buckle?

Haven't found anything all the interesting lately so haven't posted in awhile. Have had this whats it for awhile so just going to go ahead and see if anyone can figure out what it is. Found at a park that used to have homes on it for a long time. To me looks like some sort of buckle and seems someone maybe used it as some sort of decoration at one time as I found it with the wire you will see on it. It was a hunk of rust when I found it but a little sand blasting revealed it.

Yep, it's a buckle alright. Must have had some silver gilt on it too.
That scrap of wire seems strange to me, too..., as everything
else, screams BUCKLE...!

Old belt buckle. Maybe it was hung up somewhere with the wire.

Probably not that old due to I'm in California so much less history here.
