Found these at a New Mexico ghost town. They sounded like silver. They are about 3 inches long.Any ideas?

This is a WW1 tent rope tightener from the US army. Found in a WW1 period camp in New Mexico. It measures 3 long. In vg condition. Nice WW1 field gear.

Weren't most Civil War era tensioners wood? When I was doing living history, just about every tent had wood tensioners. Granted they were modern made but the company that made them was period authentic.
