Ok everyone I need someone to pinch me because I think I am dreaming ;D

So as I do everyday when I get home I check my email and then of course I next go to TreasureNet Forum to check things out. I then always go to my local craigslist and type in metal detector to see if anything is newly listed for sale. I see the first new one has only been listed for +-30 minutes. It is a generic listing that reads "metal detector - $65 " so I am curious and check it out when I open the listing it reads :o

White's Spectrum XLT with all accessories and carrying case. Rarely used

At first I think it is a typo $65=$650 ??? So I email the to see if it is legit and if the machine works. I get an email back a couple minutes later that says:

" we are downsizing and moving to AZ and retiring. Yes it is working, but battery needs charging. Haven't used in a long time. Robert- Phone #"

So immediately call and speak with the gentleman. I ask him if it is in good working condition? Where did he get it? and also if the price is correct? He replies that it works great just needs to be charged, He bought it new and that the price is correct and I tell him that I am a little curious because his price is so low and I think he needs to sell it for more $$$. He then replies that he did have an offer of $70 and if I wanted it come get it today for $100. I told him I did not want to cheat him but he stated that he and his wife are just getting rid of stuff. I just got back from picking it up. I still can't believe it :tongue3:
I think I shook his hand like 4 times before I left.

Still can't believe it & thanks for letting me tell my story

Hey Scooter

The early bird gets the worm.

Maybe you would want to send the man and his wife a coupon or something good for a free dinner at a local restaurant as a final way of saying "thank you" for such a fine deal.

May you have years of great service from such a detector

Way to go, Scooter! You are very honorable for wanting to give the man more $$ for his detector. I hope you find tons of valuable treasures with it. :icon_sunny:

Scooter-
Great find!

Good Luck wit it!

Happy Hunting!

Way to go Scooter. Looks just like mine. I traded a hand gun for it several years ago. I am finally coming to apreciate it. Only thing it needed was a good operator. Not there yet but trying........ :wav:

Good for you Scooter!

You probably made that guy's wife SO happy he was getting rid of junk...

You obviously don't need a tip , but I also search for 'medal detector', and there's one local, here, that only comes up with 'metal detectors' with the 's'... go figure.

You think you got a great deal? Well you did and I am going to make a suggestion to put some icing on the cake. If your married tell your wife that you got a great deal on a metal detector and would like to take her out to dinner to celebrate. Figure that you are using some of the money that you should have paid for it. Take her out and tell her how much you appreciate her and that you are looking forward to using this and how much that you further appreciate her allowing you to enjoy the hobby.

If you do this she won't be so upset when you go metal detecting, and you have created a pairing between metal detecting and celebration with her. Call it Psychology 101.

I found a DFX on Craigslist about 6 weeks ago for $200 hardly used. When I called the guy said that he would not ship it even though I told him that I would pay all expenses even having UPS come to his house to pick it up. Needles to say he sold it an hour later to a local.

Way ahead of you on this one
I took her out for a nice dinner that night even though I could not wait to get home to play with my new toy. :P

Thanks kntutt and everyone else for the nice comments,

I did get a chance to take the XLT out for a test drive this weekend to a couple parks and really like it so far. I found a little clad oldest being 1963. I spent a couple hours last night watching the White's DFX videos and surfing sites to get the basic knowledge before I attemp any custom programs :icon_scratch:

Scooter:

You already took her out to dinner. Way to go. That dinner will pay for itself in spades. I hope that you truly enjoy your new machine. You deserve it. It is a beautiful machine and you got it for great price. Here is a DFX forum link for you that I found while researching last month:

http://www.findmall.com/list.php?28

I didn't realize that you are in my state. I am completely new to this and picked up a Minelab Sov Elite. I am in Basalt just down the road from Aspen. If you get up this way let me know. I skied Snowmass today. It was the last day of the season for their and Ajax (Aspen Mountain). However, they are opening Highlands next weekend for and Encore.

Thanks for the link...

It must have been a great day for the slopes...

My wife and I do get up your way as much as possible in the summer as we like to camp/hike...

I will add you to my TreasureNet buddy list and maybe we could get together for a hunt sometime...

I need to do some more research to hit some "not easily accessable" ghost town sites this summer as well...
