Source rock to final product

I went back to the spot where I found the blade preform earlier (thanks for help with IDing it!) and found some new artifacts. A thumb scraper, a bunch of flakes, and a source rock of the same material. I thought it was pretty neat to see the stone from source to finish. I will definitely be digging around the site more in the future!

That jumped out at me, did you pick it up? Was it anything?

Nice catch! It turned out to be another flake of a different material.

Marblehead Rhyolite is often a high grade material that comes in a range of colors and shades from Jet-Black to Grey to Cranberry. All varieties have white quartz phenocrysts throughout.

The bits and pieces that you found are all very similar and could have all come off the larger core (indicating a manufacturing area)

The last flake is not made of the same material.
