Found yesterday in a field in the area of the North River about 6 inches down a Cob that I need help identifying. I would be happy to have one of the experts identify the age and mint area. The medallion was found along Narragansett Bay in an area of activity during the Revolutionary War. Would appreciate help in identifying. 20160426_113519.webp20160426_113602.webp20160426_113725.webp20160426_113747.webp

Wow I couldn't ever imagine pulling a cob, truly amazing piece of historu, good for you!

Wow that's a beauty! Big congrats on a hammered silver coin.

Nice cob  Post it on the cob forum.

WTG on the Cob!

Looks like a horse harness mount to me (Scottish Thistle)- Reverse shot?

Very nice cob!

Beautiful finds, congratulations. The medallion appears to have the Thistle Flower design, maybe in reference to a Scottish Regiment? Sub 8-)

I am uncertain about the thistle piece, but it looks really old.

The cob is just killer! Congrats.

Appears to be a 1R versus a 1/2R; Potosi mint with "E" as the assayer.
There were three with that initial; most likely Antonio de Ergueta (1652-1678) due to tenure.
Don......

Sweet finds, congrats!

The detail on the thistle piece looks concave rather than convex to me. If so it may be a mould or stamp for producing decorative brass items, possibly harness mounts/horse brasses.

I can only imagine what it would be like to find a cob like that. Great job!

great find! would be going over the place you found that with a micro scope.

Great cob! Love the crisp detail and toning. That thistle thing is pretty interesting as well.

DSCN0336.webp I found 27 of these copper cobs(1653) near phoenix last week,,

Rhode Hog... any way to get a back pic of the "medallion". ?
