So if i go grab some aluminum foil, spit on it and rub the coin with the spit and aluminum foil it should start to smell like sulfur? Look i realize you think i refuse to believe its fake, but ive had multiple people tell me real and fake for the last month so im trying to check off every possibility of it being fake to finally put it to rest. So did i get that discription of your test right? If so im going to go try it out

well as a matter of fact...(i didnt want to mention this incase ARRC were to have a heart attack) but last night after the guy told me it was too far gone, i did the aluminum foil boiling water and baking soda test and it indeed smelled of sulpher and small amounts of black started forming on the foil at water level

Thats not the test I described, if you do mine & the coin cleans up real good, then it's silver.

Here is a quick demo:

Which coin did you originally believe it to be? Ive still not had a definitive answer for what coin this is replicating, id like to search for the repos of my coin and its tough when i dont have a name to search for

Ok I am back.. had to go out and sit in sun for a bit after that... sheesh I am still sick... aaarrrrrrgg...
Um bro... I would love it to be real... just to see it.
But the weight is wrong.
You cannot just "erode" 16+ grams...
Well you can... but you would have flat disk.
This is an alum copy... prolly bought at the local "wings" surfshop of some other seashell selling place not far away...
Kids running around dropped it...
Cried all the way home he lost his treasure coin....
OR...
Some A-hole thought it would be funny if he took a few of these to throw on the beach just to screw with the MDr's...
Either way...
Tis the same...and a shame.

In case its not completely clear, after spitting on the foil, fold it over the coin & rub it between your thumb & fingers. It be honest I have no idea of the effect on this cheap metal (might ruin it, but makes no difference, unless you like copies?), but if silver no harm is done.

God those are beautiful... you find those Cruzzzz?

And this is done by rubbing aluminum foil on the coin?

ARRC, yes they were 'scrap' coins in my silver pile, & either Dad or I found them.

Yes, those coins cleaned up with the method I described. Realtime demo for you, I normally don't spend this much time on a clearly fake/copy/repro post, but you caught me in the right mood, signing off soon.

Thank you. I just compared rubbing a silver quarter with aluminum and the coin and the difference was amazing. Definitely not silver. Thanks for the help guys, but again out of curiosity, what coin is this replicating?

If the spit test didnt work try the urine test :laughing7:

A Spanish coin called real, is what i think it should look like.

The spit on tin foil won't work on a heavily corroded coin , it will only work on a very tarnished silver coin. Having said that nothing looks correct about this coin, especially the weight.

I found this fake 8 reale coin a few months back at a baseball field. It doesn't have "copy" on it and looks similar to your coin's design. My coin is a little larger, though. It measures 1 3/8" and appears to be silver plated brass.

Heh freebird...
Did your heart skip a beat when it dawned on you what was in the hole ?

It also skips a beat wthe moment you find out it is a fake... Sucks bear Ass.

Yup, it sure looked sweet, until I rubbed off the dirt! Way too shiny to be real, but it was still fun to find.

I took a quick look at the coin and it appears to have a molding line along the edge and like others more knowledgeable than me odds are it's a fake....here's a modern copy I found a few years back in the ground.....check out the lip/edge how it looks from being molded and no copy stamped on it....probably knocked off the sell to the tourists.

Regards + HH

Gavin, put it in baking soda and water and see what is under the corrosion it could still be silver.
