Spoiled on my first box...!

Wow... so besides my lucky road trip, I've mostly been buying other people's dumps (bank rolls with the crimped end opened) and a few loose clads. I had asked a few weeks ago about ordering a box at my bank but was told the vault manager wasn't in, but would call me. Never got a call, and it fell by the wayside. Today she called and said "You asked about ordering $500 of half dollars? They are here whenever you want to pick them up." I let her know that I thought I was waiting for a call, but I still didn't know how long the box had been there waiting for ME, so I went and got it today.

My expectations were literally zero, as I've seen so many reports of skunk boxes on here, and just met my local coin dealer who expressed his opinion that CRH is not worth it around here as this area was not even really settled until the 1950s. OMG... I started opening rolls and every single one had at least one 40%er (of course, I was picking enders to continue my streak... haha).

38 40%ers
2 clad proofs, both 1977-S
17 NIFC

Obviously I will order again, and I'm going to have to try not to be disappointed when my next box doesn't measure up. Still no 90% though

I do have a few questions. One, how can I tell what service the box is from (Brinks, etc.)? Two, the proofs have some fingerprint marks (probably my fault for handing one to my friend to show him ). What can I do to gently clean them? Neither of them is totally perfect anyway but I'd like to keep them. Thanks!

Congrats on the 40%ers!

I guess your dealer is right about the settlement. If your area was settled in 1850s, you would find some walkers in there.

No coin dealer is your friend unless you know them on a personal friend basis.

1.) He might be CRHing himself. Why would he encourage competition in his area?

2.) He realizes if he makes it sound like it's not worth it and if you want silver or other old coins, you will go to him.

Both true. I just figured if I mentioned CRH to him, he's a dealer, it's not like it would be the first time he's heard/thought of it. And obviously I wasn't too discouraged by what he said, because I went ahead and ordered a box.

Oops, I feel compelled to correct... it was actually more like 9 NIFC, got them together with some other ones I'd already found. The 40% count was right though. :P

Good score!!! Fingerprints are generally caused by the oil on ones hands. Don't know how to get them off except with a coin cleaner. I'd just leave them the way they are. Just my two cents worth.
