I was going through my pile of worked flakes, and I found a few spokeshaves. So I thought that I would share them with you all.

You are wecome to share your spokeshave finds also.

I already comented in your thread that it ''may be'' a spokeshave?

From what I have seen, all spokeshaves are flaked from ''one'' side as in uniface flaking, but I may be wrong. Your item appears to be flaked from both sides.

Let's cut to the chase and I will call it a spokeshave. :icon_thumright:

Rock, I don't think that your items in your photo's are spokeshaves. In the last photo, those look more like possible gravers, and the the other two are what's left of two broken points.

These are a few that I have close at hand. I feel pretty sure these are spokeshave or sinew working tools.

Grobb I'm sorry I did not get back to you on the suspected spokeshave. I'll agree with Digger and call it a spokeshave as well. Still looks like the tip of a deep notch or dove. I'm still sticking to my guns on the possible hoe as well............all speculation of course!............GTP

A couple spokeshaves.

So they were reworked to a tool then? Cause they both show secondary flaking on the sides. They would of been some nice points when whole.

Thanks Neogeo! :icon_thumright: Those are some very nice examples, Thanks for sharing!

Hey Gator, those look like gravers or gouges, but they may be identified as spokeshaves in your area. Cool, thanks for sharing.

I suppose that's possible but the secondary flaking and the usage wear is inside the bend. I have many small ones like alot shown here that would not have worked on larger handles and branches "spokes". Those little ones were most likely for arrow shafts..

You are right, I was focusing only on the smaller C shaped spokeshave, and after viewing Reaper photos, that the larger and longer curved spokeshaves need to be included. Again thanks for showing the different variety.
