well i know this has been said time and time again, but i do believe i have hunted every park and old school to death. so i figured it was time for a change of hunting venue, so i started to drive to the out skirts of town wich is usually in most cases a newer contruction site in most towns since the center of town is the most established and oldest. this is not the case in mesa arizona due to the amount of farm land that existed before and during the towns incorporation in the 1800,s by the mormons. so i was driving around when i spoted a farmers field that had no crops planted and i figured this was as good a choice as any. i drove down the long dirt drive way up to the house i assumed owned the land and spoke to the owner. i asked for permission to hunt his field and i was given the green light. after about 2 1/2 hours i came up with a solid hit and a vdi of 91 i dug about 5 inches down and pulled up a 1937 walking liberty half "the first of the year" i was grinning from ear to ear, and starting scanning even more closly overlapping my pattern and about a20 minutes later another hit at a vdi of 92 i checked the depth and it was about 4 inches down. i dug the target and was suprised to find a 1942 walker half shinning up at me after wiping away some of the dirt. i couldnt believe it 2 walkers in one day that has never happened to me ever. i then started looking around to the left and right being a little paranoid i figured someone must be messing with me, and then i thought well it is st. pattys day and my luck was definatley turning around. i started to laugh when my cell phone rang and my buddy was calling from our local bar yelling at me to get down here for happy hour drinks. so content with my finds i started across the field to my car with that half harted swing of the coil that i assume we all have done at the end of a hunt when i got another solid hit with a vdi of 80 i started to grin found the depth of 7 inches plus dug the target and poped out a decent 1902 barber quarter, another first of the year for me. at this point i shut off my dectector walked to the farm house thanked the owner and asked if it was ok if i hunted here again in the future and they said come back any time.i took my new treasure home washed them up to get the dirt off and put them away in a safe spot. all the way to the bar i was grinning like a fool thinking about my pot of silver i have just discovered. it may not be leprechans gold but silver is always ok to me.

You are luckyer than any Irishman I ever knowd. Met my wife in a Denver bar on St Paddy day. That was luck but now days I think I`d have stayed in that field.

Wow!
What a good day you had. Nice landowner with 3 great finds and permission to continue looking.

Matt,
We "think" they are all hunted out and then choose to go to a new spot and you did a super job of thinking and Trying to locate a new place to tect. WOW two big silver coins and then a silver quarter and you left to go to a bar?? Just a tease. The farmer was sure nice to let you on the property and I'd think he appreciated how you acted and probably that you closed the gates going in and out showing that you cared about "his place". Please keep us posted on how your next visit's turn out. Thanks for sharing, Herb

Outstanding !!!!
What were your settings on your MXT ..just curious ..all I seem to get is pull tabs on the readout when I set my MXT to standard settings

HH to all

I'll admit it, I'm a tad jealous! ;D Sweet finds!!!! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft: I bet you can't wait to get back there!

i dont go with just one standard setting it really depends how the soil is, and what im looking for, but usually its coin/jewelery, trac to ground, trigger button to the rear unless im hunting nickels, and gain between 8-9 with threshold just above silent, and disc set to 6 1/2 unless im hunting those broken jewelery signals then disc is at 3 1/3 -4. i dont have much complaints about the mxt i hit good depth with clear signals so far up to 12 inches plus, and with its ability to read whats in the ground by switching through modes you dont have to dig those pop cans that come up with dime and quarter vdi numbers. i know its not the top of the line detector compaired to some but its paid for its self 5 times over.

Are you kidding me? Where are all the walkers posted here in the last week coming from? And more importantly how to I get one? Congrats on the silver! :icon_thumright:

Congrats on the silver

Congrats on the nice silver.

Nicely done! :icon_thumright: And don't you dare be modest about the MXT! It may cost less than a grand but it's top of the line in my book! ;D
