The owner of this property told my brother this was a stagecoach stop back in the 1800's and the story that's been passed down is that there were sometimes 30 to 40 stagecoaches and carriages parked here!

We knew the site had been detected before but after half an hour my brother(Willybgood) and i each had a merc and half dozen pennies on us so we knew they hadn't gotten everything.

Even my greenhorn (first timer) nephew Chris found a couple of wheaties and some relics with a cheap detector. Does he look like he's havin fun?

Here's a shot of all of our finds.

Chris found this decorative brass piece, looks familiar but.. :icon_scratch: Any ideas would be appreciated :help:

Then not to be outdone by my draped bust I got a couple weeks ago, Willybgood digs an 1807 Draped bust largie!! His Explorer also sniffs out crotal bells very well and he dug two number three, intact bells. There is still a lot of ground to cover and I think previous detectorists have worked it over pretty good but the Large Cent and crotal bells prove there's still some relics from that era left to be found. Good luck on future hunts there bro. A beauty day to be out with my brother and nephew :icon_thumleft:

Nice finds !

On the 'whatsit' I'll throw out another possibility

It looks to me like the hole in the middle might contain corroded iron (like a piece of pipe perhaps) Might have been a flange base for a modest railing of some sort. Did stagecoaches have "luggage racks", or maybe "grab handles" to assist entry ? My boats railings have similar (but not nearly as ornate) fittings to attach them to the hull.

Congrats on the great spot and awesome recoveries Jerry! Still looking for my LC! A huge :icon_salut: to you on that one! :icon_thumleft:

Great finds guys, and super pictures. Way to go.
As far as you what's it, I swear I've seen that before. ??? I'm going with an end piece that holds a metal railing in place.
Thanks for the post Jerry. Great looking spot.

Diggem,I like the idea of grab handles and i'm sure the stagecoaches had something like that.I found some rosette escutheons on ebay though and they sure look to be a match. Thanks for the idea,Jerry

OJ!
Nice finds! Looks like a great place to hunt!

Hmm, you seem to be looking down your nose at that "Wally World" detector!
I can understand how you feel, after my buddy with his Ace 150 snagged a gold baby ring right under my nose!

Looks like you have some good hunting company too!

Best of Luck always,
Mark

That site was probably loaded with big coppers prior to anyone hitting it.

Nice Draped Bust largie! I seek those kind of coins every sweep of the coil!
