Star-Based Three Ring Minie Ball

Was going through cleaning some minies I found and noticied that I found a "Star-based" .58 Caliber Washington Arsenal Minie Ball. I was happy to snag another, they're getting harder to find in this area. Wanted to share it with everybody.

I've heard about those, but never saw one. Great find. All I have so far are two "57" Enfield bases.

I think I only have about 6 in all of my hunting here in Kentucky. Seems there would be more your way since that's closer to where they're from.

There have been several of the Star Based Minies pulled from this spot but they as you know are a relatively small percentage of all the bullets produced and that combined with the ones that have already been found over the years make it alittle more rare than others. I would agree with you though that there are more this way than out there in Kentucky. That is a pretty nice number for Kentucky. Thanks for lookin.

Hey Ty, no it has been fired. Found it in the bank of a Confederate strong point where they were entrenched in the second BIG battle of the Civil War. HH

That is a nice number for KY. All mine came from Viginia.

BB, I only had one for a long time, but actually got in a little patch of them in a new subdivision.

Even though I don't like the idea, I found the little area by dowsing it. I hadn't had much luck, and the truck was close, so I went and got them (rods), closed my eyes and concentrated on finding a little camp. As I turned in a direction, they crossed and I put them away grabbed my detector and headed off in that direction. Found the W.A. bullets starting about 10 feet away. <That was the only time I dowsed like that......too weird.>

I have dreamed of finding things in new places the night before a hunt and found what I dreamed of finding (one was a buckle and the other was a whole picketpost).

I dreamed of a Confederate buckle coming from a certain spot about 2 years ago, but I haven't been there to check it out.
Somethings are better left alone.
