These birds are quite fascinating, even though they are a jay and have a mean streak in them.
They make lots of different sounds, including imitating the call of a red tailed hawk perfectly.
When I had outdoor cats, I used to keep a big bowl of catfood outside the door. One morning I heard a strange meow repeating outside and thought it was a stray Tomcat. Looked out and saw one of these Jaybirds in a small tree. It was him making the meowing sound. He was trying to locate the cats while he was stealing the catfood.
