I bought a few old mining site/plat maps from a prospecting store in Auburn, ca. I am curious what Your thoughts are about Good areas to prospect in Placer, Nevada and Plumas counties. American river is prefered, yet not Completely #1. Ive travelled through Foresthill/Mosq Ridge rd, Iowa Hill and drove by Bear River...

All good areas. Need to sample, just don't go on private property unless you get permission. As for where to start, American at the fork North and middle is lots of bedrock. Very popular place and easy to get to. Either side of the road. Year back found a crack under the 49 bridge on the south and west side of the river in the bedrock that produced a nice picker while sluicing. Above the water line away from the water may be more productive as many like to be close.

You are where the gold has always been found now the work begins! The Middle fork is a big river, historically a HEAVY Gold Producer hence so much of it is claimed. The north fork has a few less claims, is a smaller river making it easier to work on and if you go into the way back country on foot you can work just about anywhere and be OK. Locations you can drive to have been hit heavily But going into the back country on foot requires stamina and being in shape!! Back country prospecting also requires more time to get in and out, is usually devoid of other people, camp anywhere, no campfires and this year the water is going to be way low so there will be more exposed riverbed to play with.

Best of success, 63bkpkr
