Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone has been having a good December and not stressing out too much with holiday shopping, relatives, etc. This is probably the slowest detecting month this whole year for me. Our recent rain, trip to Vegas, and typical holiday priorities have held my detecting time down to a minimum. I did manage a couple of short hunts this week, and made some interesting finds. First, is a carved merc dime. Looks like someone was trying to make a piece of jewelry out of it. Very interesting. The other is a cool little sterling bird pendant, which was found next to a couple of 20's wheaties. The stone in the middle looks like torquoise. All these finds came from a couple of parks I've pounded this year. There always seems to be a little more for me.

I'm not sure if I'll make my 3000 wheatie milestone. Under 10 days to go.

Thanks for looking.
Seasons Greetings,
CAPTN SE
Dan

VERRY INTERESTING (Awesome MERC)

Hey, Dan, you never cease to amaze me with your god-given talent of wilver-seeking. I don't know of nobody else who has this unique gift. :)

That Merc looks awesome, man! Heck, with all the knowledge you possess, you could open the "The School of Wilver-Seeking." If you won't mind, I will submit my application, so I can learn from a real pro! Hmmmm...maybe I can be the assistant professor and talk about Coppas at times. :D

Keep the passion high, my friend from SoCal. :) ;)

Several years ago...30-35... I was given a silver tie-bar with that same style cutout merc dime soldered on it. Can't lay my hands on now though. If memory serves, cutout halves were also being sold soldered to money clips.

I may be the only one here that remembers "tie-bars"!

Merry Christmas,
DR

Capt Great digs :) The turquoise bird piece looks like it could be by James Parker > he was from Cal. and his jewelry is sought after by many collectors and fetch very high prices ;)

CarolinaDigs, thanks for that information. I think you are right about the creator of my bird piece. I found a sterling ring on Ebay with the exact same maker's mark on it by James Parker.
