Found this near some Civil War items. No one I've showed it to has a clue what it is....not even a guess. It has some Maker's marks on it though, hopefully someone recognizes them. Base of this is about the diameter of a quarter. Thanks!

NOT the rear sight from a rifle.
The dove tailing on it's base is wrong, not precisely machined and no other way to attach it.
More likly to be some sort of knife switch like mentioned before.
or a guide sewen into a saddle or harness.
I don't really know, but an interesting find for sure.

My unqualified guess - part of a brass desk set, likley one of 2 pen stand broken off. Maker marks and item number stamped.
