If you find this bar or have any information on the matter, please contact:

Hopefully it was insured for it's value.
Still it really sucks when these things happen.

What shipper did you use? I know I've seen a lot of reports of valuable baseball cards disappearing that were sent through USPS.

Why should we be surprised? The USPS enforcement officer corps is well below the authorized hiring level. There are many reasons why this is so. One we often miss is Amazon's switchover to their own delivery service. My local USPS person says their packaging deliveries have dropped by over 30% (in my area) as a result. Packages were the real money maker for the USPS. And don't think FedEx and UPS don't have their own theft issues. Maybe Amazon should just offer to buy the USPS?

That's the really bad part, none of the major carriers offer insurance for high value shipments like this, so it was only insured for a fraction of its value.
I find that odd that you found that because....?
It would of cost less than $175.00 to fully insure the 10oz bar.

If you are an individual trying to securely ship this 10-ounce gold bar yourself within the United States, the industry standard is USPS Registered Mail.
  • It allows you to purchase up to $50,000 in actual insurance coverage per package.
  • It is highly secure because every single postal worker who handles the box must sign for it, and it travels under lock-and-key end-to-end.

I thought registered mail had a much lower limit for gold bullion, so I haven't used the service for years. Definitely will next time, if there is one!

USPS has denied my last three claims for items destroyed during shipping. They find any way to deny the claim. No original receipt showing what you paid for it? Sorry, you lose. Obviously, I don't have a receipt for an item I bought 30 years ago at a sportscard show! I always send them a link to my listing showing exactly what the item sold for, but they don't care. This all started when Louis DeJoy took over. His plan to save USPS billions a year was to deny as many claims as possible. I don't even bother getting extra insurance for items worth more than $100 now. No point, since they'll find a way to deny the claim.

for me it is FEDEX.... I hate using those folk! Lost a gold coin that way...AND they still owe me my tariff rebate too!
