i thought so too when i looked at middle picture but from other view third pic looks like a hafted axe maul hammer ...

I think we need to see the bottom. If it was used for anything the type of wear will tell the story. Interesting piece. Can we get any more info.? Context?

could be a defensive weapon it was clearly hafted i dont see anything different on the bottom ...polish etc ..

It's starting to look more like a canoe anchor to me...dunno. that's my guess.

Id say its been worked and thats all I got. Interesting though and it does look to be grooved.
