A thunderstorm over the Gulf of Fonseca in the distance. It was a typically violent lightning storm, and gave quite a light show for about an hour this evening.

The dark things in the foreground are banana trees in my yard.

Superb shots Marc...incredible composition as well. Blue sky,
dark clouds plus lightning. Also nice to see another D90 user...:occasion14:

I could see you got a "hot pixel" in that first image..odd since you
were only at ISO 200. Hate to see one blemish in such a gorgeous
shot..so I removed it ...

Thank you! As you are undoubtedly aware, the D90 is not the greatest in low light. There were actually several "hot" pixels, possibly because it was getting pretty dark and the exposure was around three seconds on "bulb" setting. I made a weak attempt to remove them with luminance noise reduction in Photoshop, but I admit I didn't think the image was worth a lot of extra effort. The blue sky is merely the very last remnant of sunset, hardly noticeable to the eye.

When I came to Honduras I brought four cameras, all Nikons: a D40, a D60 and two D90s. The D40 always produced the best quality photos with the least noise, but it has half the resolution of the D90s. I have not upgraded to anything better because there are no camera shops here in Honduras, and it's nearly impossible to have anything shipped from the US. For that reason I have two D90s just in case one kicks the bucket. So I'm a D90 user by no other choice because I can't get anything else. But for the most part, I'm happy with them.

I'm by no means a professional photographer, but I do like to play around mostly with closeups and focus stacking. And there's always something wonderful around the next bend in the jungle.

I just saw on the news this morning that this storm hit the Department (province) of Valle on the Gulf of Fonseca particularly hard. The Rio Goascorán overflowed its banks and a lot of the Lenca people living along the river were flooded out of their homes. No news as yet on any damage or deaths in the flood.

Some of these storms get REALLY nasty, and Valle and Choluteca always catch the brunt of nature's fury.

This is the storm I got in 2019 in Linwood, KS. It landed 38 yards next to me. Needless to say, that one was too close Adjustments.JPG

Well that’s what I do, have a BS in Meteorology, I have a YouTube video of it, then a guy from a university did a study on it including me, and my footage in it crediting me for it, and saying I was basically the smartest out of the bunch because I left myself a way out, and two tornado tour vans got rolled less than a half mile from me.
