As much as I enjoy reading about all the finds on here ... I'm a little slow putting my finds on. I wanted to share this rather strange find.

I got it after some of the stormy sand accumulation and cuts at Seal Beach in California. It looked like the bottom of a broken dark green beer bottle but it rang up on my detector so I stuck it in my pocket. A fellow detectorist came over to ask how I was doing so I showed it to him. He looked at it and tilted it against the sun. He said, "hey!, there's a face in there!"

I looked and tilted and tilted and could just barely make out a face with a beard. I took it home and it sat a few weeks in my miscellaneous box. A few days ago I was reviewing my finds and amazingly the face can now be clearly seen!

The writing along the sides is unknown to me but the flag appears to be from India. Hopefully someone can recognize the writing. I think it must be a memorial badge of some sort. Really a strange find.

Thanks and HH, Joe

That is the national flag of India if you accept the colors are saffron, white, and dark green; and a wheel in navy blue is in the middle of the white--behind this man's head.
The 4986 (or 4886) after "San Jose" is certainly not a Zip Code for the area; not even close (95100 series is SJ)

It looks like 4986 in photo BUT it's actually 1986 on part...date for sure. Over 20 years? underwater?

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (1897-1945) was one of the greatest leaders of India.

He mysteriously disappeared back in 1945... some suspect a plane crash.

Sanat,

Doing a Google search I don't find any photos of a bearded Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The glasses also appear to be post 1945 style ... and what would the San Jose 1986 signify? Can you read what's written around the circumference?

Regards, Joe

Interesting find
