Hey ya'll,
My father picked this up somewhere. He asked me what it was, I had no idea.
My only thought is that it is some adapter to key a skeleton lock?
I have no clue. Searched the lock forums and got no hits.

thanks,
Laf

Interesting, here's my thought. Skeleton key locks are notoriously easy to pick, so what I think you have is a security device to keep that from happening. It looks like if you were to put it into a mortise lock, and turn the key, it would block the keyway and keep anyone from being able to pick the lock. If you have an old door somewhere you could easily test that theory.....

I think you have a "core" key, and lock core, is the key removable from the other part?

Yes, the "modern" looking key is removable.

I like the keyhole protector idea. Thanks DCMatt.

Edit: Another search confirms that it is a "keyhole protector". Used alot by hotel guests back in the day.
