Stuck in a Tree - Frustration Boils .

As some of you know I been working the old foundation site pretty hard lately trying to put in a few hours each day at the same time I am trying to quit smoking.

The last 3 times up to the site have yielded nothing but nails and lots of them ... today I just had my breaking point... I did the 1000 yard in every direction ... dug dozens of numerous signals and guess what I came home with ? Nails and No Detector. I give that thing my best Quarterback Hail Merry Impersonation I could muster and now she stuck about 20-30 feet up in an old maple tree.

I left her there to think about her behavior and I came home for some eats.

Will go back and get her before nightfall but today I found Utter frustration and that's about it .... after 4 straight days of nothing but nails ... I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever find anything else again.

I hunted a old home site five times, the sixth time found two gold rings in about 45 min. go figure, gotta get the coil over it or you wont find it.

Sometimes we just need a break to regroup our thoughts. Just think of all the stuff that the iron is masking. I thought I had all the nails out of my yard until I got my DFX. I also thought I had picked it clean of all other stuff. After going back out with the DFX I found two or three wheats that I had gone over with the Classic ID I was using. I am still pulling up nails and other goodies. I just have to get rid of all the trash to get to the good stuff.

First I want to say I am not expecting to find treasure. Not searching for gold or silver or coins in particular ... just a bit of town history or relics from way way back would be nice. They have to be there as I have found a couple keepers there ... Heck I've kept the nails even. I hadn't been anywhere this week but there so maybe that was the problem. The frustration wasn't so much with the machine as it was with the nails.... I know it's not the machines fault ... just frustration got the best of me.

Yes I went and Retrieved the detector ... It didn't come easy and I suspect it's just as upset with me as I am for my actions. Didn't want to come easy... To make it feel better I turned it on and you guessed it .... Dugg me a nice 4 inch nail ... Atleast it was a large one. I prefer the big ones over the little ones.

Might try some new spots this weekend but I don't think I'll ever give up on the foundation in the woods . 2 buttons , 1 buckle , and a stirrup can't be all that's there. Just can't be.

I need to stick to my grid and not be bounceing all over.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side I guess.

just think how you will feel when you hit a good find......thats what it's about...

....md'ing is the only hobby that has ever paid me back.....and it doesn't feel like work.......

As much as I wanted to say that I didn't, but I have to agree with you. Then I don't think he would be digging all those nails....

All detectors are good, like they say you get what you pay for and some are way better than others,,,

I've been th'n for about 3yrs. now and I have yet to find a silver coin. Oh I've found everything else, a silver ring from Mexico all kinds of clad coins mickeymouse watch some wheat pennies but for the life of me I can't find any silver coins. I live in Louisville Ky. and it's not uncommon to go to any of the many parks around here and see where someone else has already been there but it doesn't matter to me because I know that silver coin is just one more hole away. Hang in there I'm frustrated but I'm gonna keep on going. izzitcat

Very frustrating. Have had similar luck in places you would think would be full of old coins. Maybe there is just nothing good to be found there. Sometimes I think maybe money was so hard to come by in those days that folks were very careful not to lose it. Just because the site is old does not absolutely mean there will be tons of good finds there. However don't give up and maybe you will find that one thing that is there that will make all the frustration worth it. HH Good luck!!

Dude what you have there is a Bounty Hunter Nail Detector!!! Get your self a Garrett Ace 250, the iron is masking all the good signals!!! clean the junk out and you will find the good stuff, you found an old home site now you have to work for it! also you must learn the hell out of your detector and become one with it, no negative thoughts or you will find nothing!!! get an ace and I'll bet you will find stuff in your own yard your Bounty Hunter missed!!! Frustration is a part of the hobby, but aggravation shouldn't be. I don't know what it's like to try to quit smoking, but that can't be helping any. Chew some gum, take a deep breath (don't swallow the gum), and get back to it. Sounds like the site has already given you some nice finds. You haven't been skunked, gotta keep that in mind. Usually when I'm about to toss my digging tool at a tree (never my detector, it was expensive), I stop and ask myself one very important question: Does finding something here today mean I live or die? Of course the answer is NO, so I try to put things in perspective. As others have said, this is a hobby. Metal detecting shouldn't create high blood pressure, it should help alleviate it.

PS, dump the BH and get yourself an adult's detector. Oops, I'm going to be put on more IGNORE lists now.

No need to dump the BH, it has officially dumped me. I was hunting an old orange grove this weekend and it died. I gave it a proper burial yesterday. Although I never found anything of note with it I did feel a sense of connection with it seeing as it was my first MD. So as I gently lowered it into it's blue lidded, wheeled casket I could only wish I were there when some treasure hunter gets a "trash" signal and digs it up......the irony of that moment would be priceless.
