When you text a find to some of your best buddies and they all curse at you, that's when you know you have something really killer.

Well today was that day for me, and I'm so pleased with this find despite a new fan club being started called "FU Steve" (whatever that means) lol.

I've been having some luck at a site I'd all but written off. You see I've been staying away from the street - perhaps for reclusive reasons, or perhaps because I don't want other detectorists to spot me. Either way, lately, I've been chancing it and scoring lots of large cents and early buttons. Today I was hammering away and got a slamming hit on the Deus. The kind that make the Deus overload and sound like it's in stereo. I dig it despite being sure it was junk...

I say a few expletives after figuring out what it was.

After some good advice from a few experts, I clean it with nothing but a toothpick and a chip brush.

A few friends with some incredible knowledge have confirmed it's a Ca. 1820 Militia Artillerist Belt Plate.

Plate #4 in Crouch.

It was a true blessing to dig this plate, especially in the condition it's in. Enjoy and good hunts everyone.

Man oh man that's a sweet plate!! And with the attachments there, cross bar and tongue too! Congrats!! Beautiful job you did with the Renaissance Wax!

Just for the record Scrappy, I also think it's banner worthy, but you make so many great finds, you already have one up there. Congrats again

Thanks Art. I can help when I find them so I'll let the chips fall where they will. Thanks for looking bud

Awesome job that is a rare buckle for sure. My found the buckle with the star over the eagle last week it was on top of the ground along the Mississippi river.

I must have missed that one. Did you post?

Thanks for looking

I'll give you a FU Steve as well... Fantastic Unearthing!

Thanks IP, that means a lot coming from you. Hopefully that snow is melting rapidly and you'll be stunning the rest of us soon.

Cheers

Your find never cease to amaze me , & that was a great Cleaning Job.
It could not look much better for being dug.

HAHAH WHAT! Scrappy this has BANNER written all over it man. Great condition too, especially after the wax. It did wonders to make it pop. Huge Congrats...what a find!

Congrats Steve-o and banner. I see you already named her Viola. F Everyone!

Truly inspiring Steve, Its wonderful to have hope, so I'll be heading back out soon to find my trash or treasure!

Outstanding find Steve! That plate just screams early Americana. I would love to have a plate like that in my collection. You are rapidly accumulating a nice collection of early military plates.

Thanks Buck. It was all lucky from condition to completeness. Honestly with my first look at it dug...ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1488391767.224885.webp

I thought it was going to be wasted. The edges looked all corroded and wasted away. The cleanup took forever, but was well worth it. Cheers

Such a beautiful relic! It's easy to see the history in that one.

Awesome Relic Steve, You did a great job on cleaning and preserving. My banner vote is going in. I hope to dig something like that someday.

Hey thanks. It certainly hit all the points of a really lucky find, recover, and cleaning.
