Hi All..... if you have followed my posts from this season you will know it's been a very good year both for me and my detecting partner Michael :icon_sunny: now the main fields are out of bounds until after the harvest it come as a bit of a bonus when the farmer offered us his Paddock field were his wife keeps her Horses , this field actually joins one of our main fields. Not really liking grass fields I decided to give it a go  boy I can tell you I glad I did, first good find Anglo Saxon Double Headed Brooch I have not seen this variety before so it could date from anywere between late 4th Century-early 10th Century :o there were quite a few modern finds in between but later in the day I got my Twentieth Hammered of the year and one of the best I have ever had :icon_king::HenryV111 1509-26 Hammered Groat First coinage, the first coinage of this coin used the portrait of HenryV11 whats pleasing about the coin is it's unclipped and apart from a hairline crack and a slight raggedness to the edge would grade VF value about £175- £375 so you can double that for US Dollars. I keep saying that's it for this season but I still keep finding places to go who knows I may go on right the way through till harvest

What Detector do you use Mike, do you have plenty of land for this year :P

As you state a rare brooch. Handled (not found) many equal arm variants & not seen this type. I would say imported.

The coin is stunning :o :o :o

I still have the Big Grass Field to complete  & maybe 5 days left on the button field. Then I'm out of options until harvest.

Just amazing!!! - its a whole museum under your feet. Well done.

Know what you mean.....the Paddock field was a bonus for us ;D hope the grass field produces something special for you or Dad you certainly deserve it the time you have put in.

That is an Incredible hammered silver!

My team and I are in the same situation here with the spring planting...We go through fields like dirty socks since there are so many of us--and it keeps me hard at work to find new ones. As you know that gets more complicated when the fields are planted. Yards usually too small for us to hunt as a group. So we retreat to the woods and hope to survive during the "lean" times.

Best of luck to you on an already incredible year. Put in the work on finding sites that offer year-round hunting, and you'll likely have places to hunt all season.

Thanks for the comments BB, the only fields that offer year round hunting are the grass fields and I'm not a fan of these :-\

Stunning is right! That hammered is magnificent!

Nice finds Tyrekicker the brooch and coin are spot on. Got one of those Henry VII groats myself the edge is a little more ragged though.

HH Robert.

No mention of the marks in JJ North book on English Hammered Coinage. Very detailed book but few pictures. The marks must have no known meaning (I guess) or be privy marks??
