If any coin screams medieval, it's an hammered silver groat. This afternoon this fantastic example came to light. Looks like an Henry VI , Annulet issue, 1422-30, Calais mint. Very happy with this, time for a beer :occasion14:. The others finds, included a seal like object, showing a coat of arms. Took some completely uncleaned pics of the groat, and some after a rinse in water. I think after a proper clean, the coin will look fantastic. Robert.

Hello Scrappy, that's why I took before and after pictures. I can't do much more, than post some pictures after it's final clean. And of course I will be providing, signed witness statements. I was detecting alone, so that's the easy part.:laughing7:

Rob,

Great looking hammered silver.

Regards + HH

Bill

That is one handsome coin!! Definitely a beer earner!!

Hello Westfront, thanks it's in good condition, and full. The area it came from, is loaded with pebbles, would expect it to be damaged.

I note the Ale, a stunning drink for the thirst deprived!

Oh, the groat was pretty darned nice too :)

Hell yeah buddy! That is a gorgeous coin. Congrats

Gorgeous coin Rob! But as far as I'm concerned anything hammered falls into that category. WTG man!

Cheers Bill, most hammered silver coins, pennies, half pennies and especially farthings, barely register their weight in the hand. These groats are different, they not only look impressive, they also feel it.

If, (& I don't) had 1 groat like that a year, I would be very happy - congrats

Cheers Cru, think over the years I've had six, of the double inscription type. That works out at less than one every five years.

That's about as good a hammered as one could dream to find. Stunning

Beautiful finds... Congrats!

Stunning example of the coin type! Congratualtions on the recovery! :occasion14: :occasion14:
