Subterranean Hunting In Merry Old England!

Just got back from my trip across the pond. Here are some of the more notable goodies in my "pouch." Hunted the Essex area (Colchester-Roman seat of activities in Romano Britainnia) with other club members on multiple permissions. Found some keepers. All of my finds must clear the coroner's office and national museum before I can get them back. What a trip. Ten days with ten hours of hunting each. I can't wait to go back and do it again! My IPhone said I walked 193,000 steps on this trip, 76.5 miles. Note- All this and much more with a bone-stock ATPro. Cheers, Sub


King George III Milled silver "bullhead." 1816


King George VI Milled silver Sixpence 1944


King James Sixpence hammered silver. 1625


Elizabeth I silver hammered penny. 15??


Victoria silver milled sixpence. 1825, 1844, 1885



Roman silver. Circa 200 AD. Gonna have to cook this one to reveal its secrets!


Possible Roman fibula brooch part.

Greenies! Circa 1700'-mid 1900's. Gonna have to clean a few of these to see dates and details.


Greenie embedded in a small chunk of old concrete. The base of the piece is flat, making it a perfect desk/shelf ornament!


Copper and bronze mounts, circa 1500's.

Two Railroad buttons found on the same field about 100 feet apart. Circa late 1800's. London, Chatham, and Dover RR. Also a London, Brighton, and South Coast RR.


Greenie on the surface just hanging out on a dirt clod. SO MANY eyeball surface finds here too!

So much FUN, so many nice FINDS, so much MUD ! Gotta take the fields the way they are I guess. On the other hand, you can metal detect and strengthen your legs at the same time. A fellow I met some time ago showed.
and later sold me, some Roman coins he found in that area. He plucked them out of the side of a creek bank. Lots of history there. Thank you for sharing !

Wow! Now that looks like wayyy to much fun. 10 days in England MD'ing is truly a dream for most. Glad you found some very nice old coinage and a relic or two. Great trip and awesome finds. Congrats!!

I learned that this item, which is about 2" in diameter and made of heavy brass, is NOT a 1900's drawer pull or furniture part, as I thought. It is actually reported as a 1500's-1700's pendant! I should have known based on the broken loop on the top of the reverse. Cheers! Sub
