Went out today with my dad, daughter and brother...we didn't find much. Dad found some pottery shards and I found this point. My initial thought was that the base was broken, but it is actually worked along the whole bottom...the point has a waxy polish on it, I'm guessing from many years of water and grit..would love input...I thought a Camp Creek at first, but will listen to ideas. Thanks in advance!

That is some pretty material and a nice point!

Nice triangle arrowhead!!! Looks like hornstone.

Joe - I think you've found a late-Paleo point type called a Jeff. Just going off of memory so I may be mistaken. It definitely looks early to me. Very cool point. I don't think it's a Camp Creek or other Woodland (or later) variety. The flaking doesn't look right for the era.

thanks for the suggestion...I remember seeing that in the Overstreet Guide...I will check that type out...I also thought maybe a Kirk snapped base, but wasn't sure if the bases were re-worked in this style.

The style of manufacture I think is fairly similar between Kirk and Jeff. They were contemporary points and were likely being produced at the same in the same areas.

I went back and looked at the info on the Jeff point...it definitely has the right shape..I also noticed the Copena Auriculate has about the same shape too...but it mentioned in the ID characteristics to look for woodland flaking...can anyone help with the difference between paleo, archaic and woodland flaking? I don't know the subtle differences.

Very nice point and insitu. Looks like a good trap to catch artifacts Joe. Congratulations.
