Sunday's hunt yields one decent button
Sunday was a beautiful day here in SW Pennsylvania and I had to get out somewhere. I decided to go back to a cow pasture that once held a couple of homes that were occupied from about 1820 to 1910. I have pounded this site hard for years now, but there is so much iron in the ground that you can always find something if you go slow and listen hard. The site is in a beautiful spot surrounded by hills and trees, and nobody can see you there. That's one reason I like this place. The other reason I like this place is that it gives up military buttons and relics!! There have been over 100 buttons dug here and among them have been:
(4) War of 1812 era Artillery buttons (eagle on a cannon)
(1) 1820-1830 Artillery button (convex eagle A)
(1) Civil War era Artillery button (two piece eagle A)
(1) War of 1812 era Rifleman's button (hunting horn & stars)
(1) 1820 - 1830 Naval button (eagle on an anchor)
Other military relics I have dug here include an 1820s/30s Shako Hat plume holder and a GAR badge. Now I can add a Civil War era overcoat size Eagle Infantry button to the list!
Here are my finds. Other than the Infantry button, I didn't find anything else of note. I added a picture of me hunting at this site about a month ago.
