Definitely post Civil War but still a great find.

That is a Great seal button and is not from the civil war, sorry.

early 1900s - army

The US Army "Great Seal" button has been in service continuously from 1902 through today. But yours appears to have what is called a "black finish," which dates it from World War One to 1923.

By the way, your button's manufacturer, Metal Specialties, was located in Attleboro Massachusets (not Battleboro). It began operations in 1916, according to the (very long) .pdf historical document of Massachusets industries, at the following website: http://www.rmlonline.org/pdffiles/Stone chapter xiv.pdf
There is some debate among insignia-collectors about whether or not Attleboro's Metal Specialties Company survived the Great Depression of the 1930s.
