I dug this long ago in an area with activities from the 1820's through the 1890's.
I don't know if that helps date this tag or not.
It is sitting on a US half dollar coin for size reference.
I believe its composition is Copper.
Any information would help me put some back story with it.

ID tag for what ever it was attached to. Tool, keys etc. It was hand stamped.

Wow.. Man, I think that's it!
Winner winner, chicken dinner.
That makes perfect sense. Whoever rebuilt it.. In those days for whatever reason used a metal tag versus a paper one.
In mechanics.. Paper.. Is only good for wiping your hands!
