OK....Here is my slant on things the other night. This is in response to Mastereagles take on things. Here is the link to his story:

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,137886.0.html

Mastereagle and I have not had an opportunity to swing a coil for awhile, so we hit it the other night. Because of my 15 year Wedding Anniversary, I had to call off a hunt that we had planned earlier in the week. Oops. :P Mastereagle really wanted to go on this hunt, but had recently found out that he was raised by chipmunks and was busy storing nuts for the hard days of winter. He talked to me about going detecting that week, but I couldn't understand him with all those nuts in his mouth. :-X Oh well...let's continue.

When we finally got out...sleet and ice was in the forecast. Fortunately, it was a mere 30 degrees with a 10 MPH wind. Childs play after some of our hunts. :-\

This house we were hunting was built in the 1929-30 era. It has a HUGE yard and the owner said it hadn't been detected since he owned the house in 1970. We started hunting and things were REALLY quiet. Neither of us were getting ANY signals, and this went on for about 10 minutes. Finally we ventured to the outskirts of the property where a walkway parallels the main road and we both found a quarter and some other change. The property was pretty clean of signals initially, but as we worked our way toward the house, we started finding a few coins. Mastereagle found a cool tax token and I found nothing! He was doing his detector dance in front of the house, so I went to the left side. The ground was really frozen hard here and I fought like heck to dig anything. Finally ME22 came around the house and pinpointed a hole for me with his on-board Sunray. We managed to locate the dime and he told me he was finding some Wheats up in front. I walked up there with him and saw something that I always feared might happen!

ME22 had knocked the homeowner down on the ground and had turned his pockets inside out and scattered the contents of his pockets all over the yard. The homeowner begged me to help him but I told him it was "no use". I asked him if he had looked ME22 in the eyes and he said that he had. I told him it is better not to look him directly in the eyes. "He will charge you…..he probably thought you might have some old coins on you." I helped him up and returned to detecting. ME22 jumped several times at the homeowner with his Lesche while making growling noises and the property owner retreated inside and locked the door. Same old...same old. Gosh…we have talked about this too. Mastereagle just hates old people and children. Here is what I managed at the close of the night:

A little bit of clad....This must be from the homeowners pockets after ME22's attack.

Here are some more pics. Does anyone know anything about this awesome toy soldier? I was really stoked to find it. What a cool relic! I think the red thing is a airplane wing from the same period as the soldier. Notice it says "US" on it.

I do not hate women and children! With a nice sauce they taste just fine, old folks are a little tough that's all. ::) :o ;) :D ;D :D ;D :D :)

That soldier is just too cool. I don't know anything about it but it is a really good, scratch that really AWESOME find!!!!!

What can I say, I got $12.38 off the home owner! I knew we weren't going to be able to hunt the site anymore with the truck size holes you were digging with your detectin pogo stick digger!!! ::) :D :) ;D :D

It is going to be hard to ever top that night for the fun and excitement and the fact that we both found good stuff!

I thought the u.s. marked thingy was the hood off the jeep. beyond that you guys are hysterical. remember to marinate with lime juice it tenderizes the toughest meat.

keep up the good work.

Congratulations on a fine hunt. I really like the soldier best.

Yeah the home owner said he would love to have it. Then BB took his walker away from the guy and beat him with it until he was unconscious! :o I pretended to tie my shoes so I have plausible deniability!!!

Besides the usual hilarious story, the toy soldier is very nice. WTG! Anyone have an idea of its age? He appears to be dressed in a WWI uniform.

Nice finds, cool Grant Wood avator, and great story as always.

Very, very cool finds, and as always a great story, but like on ME story its kind hard to guess whos telling the truth ;D

Cant wait till you guys post more stories and finds, and whem are you going back to that site?

Your soldier appears to be what is know as a Podfoot Series by Barclay Mfg. Co. According to Obrien's Collecting Toys he is a number 988 aka b260. Unfortunately he is missing his feet, but still a nice find. :)

Ya'll always crack me up, Thats a great new avitar BB

The little piece with "U.S." is a wing fragment from a 1935 Army Air Force Tootsietoy plane. One wing says "U.S.", and the other wing says "Army". The manufacture of this plane predated the Air Force!

Nice find. I have one also, and it is one of my favorites.

Here is a picture from e-bay, and then a lousy scanned photo of mine.

Tim,
I have told him to use Lemon Juice upteen times....he won't listen to me. ;D

plehbah,
Thanks brother!!! You knocked that one out of the park!! I appreciate your post.

Burdie,
Yeah, that soldier kinda ended up being the show stopper...so to speak. This was one of the last finds we had that night and we both were mezmerized by it. I consider it one of my best relic finds. Can't wait to see you again in Kansas Stan! Good luck hunting and take care man!!!

Joe Kerr ,
Wow! I am super stoked that you had some information! WTG dude. Thanks for the research!!

mastereagle22,
Your not as dumb as you look. You know what....really you are. Sorry. :(

TEXAN Connection,
Thanks for your comment on the avatar. If you watch Mastereagle, he just kinda writes his own comedy. Hope to see ya on the T-Net hunts. Remember, I was the first one to see that Morgan when you dug it up in Caldwell. Hopefully you can return the favor on the next group hunt. ;)

And the worse thing is that he probably won't even invite you back to hunt. I've at times had to resort to the old " how bad do you really want your insulin back?", tried and true method of getting permission. What's a real fun thing to do is to trip and fall from the 2" hole you just dug, and threaten to sue. Don't know how many good old fashioned dinners I've gotten from that one. Also, putting all the pulltabs and junk in a bag, setting it on fire, and knocking on the front door can be really profitable if the backyard looks promising.

Blackmail will be my next tactic.. ;D

Actually, the homeowner is one of the good guys. He is interested in what we find and grateful that someone is digging it up and offered it to him. He won't take any of our finds....says it would have rotted in the ground...at least now he gets to take a look at what was there. Man....what a super guy.

BB

ah-ha! i thought BB would have a different version of events. this is like festus & doc on gunsmoke. by the way, was there a '43 copper in that pile of pennies?
