Taylor River Camping

Hi all,

Spent three nights camping on the headwaters of the Taylor River in central CO last week. Here are a couple of pics of the area. Very scenic area but many, many ohv riders, it really surprised me to see how popular this area has become. Each morning the temperature was flirting with freezing - 32 degrees!

According to one of my books on places to pan in Colorado the Taylor river is a spot to find some color above the reservoir. I went up and down the Taylor river on the 12th & 13th of this month. Getting cooler for sure. I took a picture of the river below the dam and one of the mountain range where the Taylor enters the reservoir. In the mountain range shot the Taylor river was right behind my back in that picture as it went in to the reservoir. I sat and watched the creek and wondered as I watched the wave action from the reservoir pushing up in to the Taylor creek flowing in to the reservoir and agitating the sands at the delta back and forth if that would be a good place were the heavier materiel would be worked in at. I guess I need to take a pan with me next time I'm in the area and find that out. :dontknow:

I've seen the growth of the Colorado Rockies now over 38 years. I can still remember what it was like in 1977. I was thinking back then the place is getting over populated. Still highway 50 cutting across central Nevada is a place I enjoy getting away to.

Hwy 50 through NV, the loneliest road in America. That is a very enjoyable cruise. The basin and range province is unique!

I do like that drive. We have a place in Carlin Nev. and I'll go Hwy 50 to Eureka and take a Hwy 278 up to Carlin. I've been across Hwy 50 border to border a few times and it's really nice out there in the fall, but stay clear in the winter, unless your loaded up with provisions, because I've seen some freaky blizzards come along very quickly out there. One time I was staying at the Hotel Nevada in Ely and went down to the diner to eat. I sat at the counter with a fella who worked for the fish and game department. He was having a bite to eat before he started work. His job was to drive up and down Hwy 50 from 11pm to 6am and do a head count on all the Jack Rabbits he see's up and down the highway. To me it sounded like a great job.
