Well as I said a few days ago I bought the wife a Tesoro Silver Sabre and today we finally got to try it out. I had never used Tesoro before and I must say they are pretty fun to hunt with and it pin points like a dream however it does have some occasional chatter, but I'm already used to it. It provided me with a few cool finds,42 coins and my first silver ring of the year. Boy was I happy to see that silver. ;D

I have this Sabre and I picked up a Tesoro Bandido II uMax. Has anyone used the Bandido? How is the pinpoint on them? I haven't had the chance to use one, but have heard they are good little machines as well.

I have had several Tesoro's, 2 with the pinpoint button. To be perfectly honest, I never use the button. They all seem to pinpoint really well with just X'ing the target. The only issues come in when using the DD coils. They are a lot harder to pinpoint due to the nature of the coil.

Nice ring! Good chunk of change too....

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm glad to see you made it back over to T-net Steve.

Works and you can't beat the warranty either :)

Sadly from what I understand Tesoro's book says the warranty is only offered to the individual who turned in the registration card. Considering I bought the detector used that person would not be me. :'(

Fear not, this fine company is well known for repairing their own, regardless of the owner. For that reason, I am and will continue to be a repeat customer.

1320 is absolutely correct. Tesoro stands behind their products without "hemming and hawing". If the machine has not be abused ( thrown about, left in the car under direct sunshine, dropped in the lake, etc. ) Tesoro will stand behind their equipment. I've seen them do it. That plus the LIFETIME warranty is why I buy nothing but Tesoro. White's, for example, prices their XLT's, etc. at $1,000 but only back them for 3 lousy years---no thanks. I bought a Spectrum in about 1995, then took it back and traded it back in for a Tesoro. In 1995, I was using a borrowed Silver Sabre and nailed a tax token at 8 inches, in bad ground. Then went on to find a 1-oz. yellow gold pendant set with 9 cut and faceted diamonds valued at over $900. The Giffords do it right!!

Hey, garbage digger--- I have a Bandido II that is absolutely fantastic. The Bandido uMax is just as good or better. You'll love it. I just got a DeLeon for a "turn-on and go" machine, but am keeping my BD II for mineralize grounds and relic hunts. Paraphrasing the old Timex watch commercial, Tesoros just keep on detecting.

gabage digger, I have owned new since 1998 the Siver Sabre uMax. I also own a Bandido II uMax and a Cortes.

The Silver Sabre uMax is an EXCELLENT unit. the chatter you are sometimes getting is do to unit having a "preset ground balance". In most areas this will be more than exceptable but in areas of high mineralization you will get chatter. The Bandido II uMax which was sold as 1 step above the Silver Sabre uMax has a "manual ground balance" to phase out those minerals that may interfere with detecting. The Bandido II uMax is an AWESOME unit and has been the goto detector for many people before the new series of "hot coil detectors" from Tesoro were introduced ( Tejon, Cibola, Vaquero ).

As far as the warranty being applied only to the original purchaser, this is definitely the way Tesoro has it written within their warranty specs. In real life practice though Tesoro is known for being "very generous" and "committed" to the technology they put into their units.

As was said before, barring neglect such as drowning the unit, leaving in a trunk of a car in high heat ect. you can be expected to be treated VERY fairly if ever the need arises for you to send in the unit to be looked over.

You made an excellent choice with two very popular Tesoro units.

BTW, nice finds!

Nice finds gd! It almost seems that this post should be in the Tesoro file. ;D They are great machines.

BTW, where were you hunting?

Good finds and I know you will find a whole lot more. I have the Tesoro Golden UMax and it works great at pinpointing and great on depth. I hunted a park that has been around since the late 1800's and found my first Indian Head Penny, can't tell the date, because the soil eroded part of the penny away and the date so far is unrecognizable. Tesoro's are great machines. I have found silver and gold with it. I have my eyes set on a Troy metal detector that I want to try.
Good finds...Keep on huntin
