Test Trommel AC motor

I am in the process of building a small test trommel. Its a 18" drum 1/4" thick by 6' long. I want to use an electric motor for spinning the trommel since I already need to run a generator for the vibrating grizzly. My question is, what size of AC 120v motor should I Run ? Would a 1 or 1.5 HP be adequate? Also, what final drive would you guys recommend? Thanks

No need to go that big of a motor ! A 1/2 H.P. 120 volt would do just fine when you take into account the pullys needed to turn it.

Thank you! Now I need to figure out a gear reducer. I was looking at some adjustable ones the other day, anyone have experience with the Zero-Max?
