So I spent Saturday and Sunday hunting the old cabin site at my friends' ranch. Hunted in a couple of different areas this time around the chiminey side of the cabin...found what appears to be some pieces to an old stove, an arched bracket of some sort, and a piece that looks like a part for an old meat grinder? Next I found this old length of chain, and a bar that has a square hole in the end...any idea what this attached to? The next piece appears to have had a hook on the end at one time, and has holes for a chain to fit through? The buckle has wording on it that says:
PAT.FEB'10'70 any idea what this was used for?? It too has been soaking in olive oil...found more pieces of pottery, along with some more shotgun brass...the first one is Winchester New Rival 12 ga. from the early 1900's I believe...the other is a U.M.C. CO. New Club flat 8 pointed star 12 ga. which dates from 1867-1911...the other is a U.M.C 40 and I can't make out the rest, and not sure of the year..Will post the rest of my finds in the next post....don't miss it! As always, thanks for stopping by and taking a look.

My apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know, but..

U.M.C. is United Metallic Cartridge Co., which was bought out by Remington (hence later rounds labelled 'Rem.-UMC').
I think it was early in the 20th century that this happened. I've got one brass casing at home with just the U.M.C.

Of course, all that stuff looks boo-coo old. And interesting.

Baggins,
Very nice relics. That buckle is fantastic! Great find.

That is definitely some fine looking metal!

I would love to know more about that buckle. . . very neat!
