That is a damned shame!:censored:

You are aware I power screen and dig with a skidsteer, right? Surely you dont think i could set up an illegal mining operation on public land now do you?

Gotta get me one of those! Would certainly help getting through the plow zone

according to the list of all states texas has 167,625.00 thousands of acres total with only 3,216.40 owned by state and fed's the balance is private. Not much public land. New York has the most public land which surprised me

Yep. You would be amazed what's still down there where a plow hasn't hit it nor has it been picked over.

Thats what I like to hear. One of my brothers and I have been finding stuff well beyond the plow zone in a few of our spots, and while it's slow, it's damn exciting.

I'm not sure I understand your numbers. The Davy Crockett National Forest alone is 165,000acres besides the others.

not sure i understand the table either but sounds to me that the forest mentioned is only a fraction of the public land in Texas. If you read the note for the chart it says the numbers are in Thousands of acres so you would move the decimal point over three pots. So 3216.40 would be 3,216,400 acres. Is that right?
An old high school buddy that moved to Texas and loves it but is always complaining that Texas has little public land is what got me interested after your post. He is retired Army

At any rate, private property is where its at for artifact collecting. I love being able to buy or lease a property and have all the rights to dig at my own pace and style.

Some people buy a bass boat for 75g and chase ditch pickles. Some folks buy a membership to the country club and chase a little white golf ball. Some people get on a duck lease and spend a fortune on calls, decoys, boats ,guns, and blinds. Me? I dig arrowheads and sell enough along to pay the Bill's while still keeping most of my good stuff.

To each their own. If you want to do it, you can find a way.

That Davy Crockett National Forest is only one of two places that I was ever turned around in and almost lost. Flat and all pines! Lol.
