Thanks to the veterans on the board...and all of the nation's other warriors!

Just my observation that there seems to be a lot of former armed forces guys who post here.

Thanks to all of you for your service and sacrifices! May you have lots of luck in your hunts wherever they may take you.

As I get older, and I mature a little (I'm now 29). I have begun to want to comprehend really what it means and what it must take to have served this country. I have never had any immediate family in any of the services, nor have I myself joined. So the idea of a veterans day, or what it really means to be a veteran really didnt start to sink in until the last couple years. I cannot imagine demonstrating that level of service to others. The level of constant courage it must take, and all the other amazing atributes our veterans obviously have. I REALLY REALLY REALLY appreciate EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU who have risked it all by selflessly putting your own life on the line for the "rest" of us. Thank you for.......... FREEDOM.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't feel that I'm a hero. I just did the job that the country asked me to do. I'm a Vietnam vet who stayed with the military (thru the reserves) until I retired in 1994. I was always ready to go but was never asked to go again. I've always felt that the real heroes were those who didn't make it back home (either in a cemetery or still missing) or they came home in a box.

First time i've been on in awhile and i'd like to express my thanks as well.

I'm a right leg amputee (Helping someone broke down on the highway.) and if it hadn't been for a WWII vet friend of mine (There was a difference of 1/8' of our right legs.) not sure without his support I would have made it. I was 18 at the time. His support mentally along with his sense of humor always amazed me.

The wives & kids deserve a special thanks on Veterans Day too.

It can be very stressful on all aspects of a marriage, and the kids grow up without a dad in that time of their life. While we get deployed, the moms are left behind to take care of everything from raising the kids to managing all the bills/finances. I missed out on my son walking for the first time as well as his 2 year old bday.

While we appreciate a thank you every now and then, it is/was our duty to serve and we generally dont seek any praise from the outside. I know I'm a couple days late on the post....but just remember to thank a veterans family next year when 11/11 rolls around again. They pay a big price too.

In typical veteran fashion.... I will remember what you said here- Being a first time father to a 2 year old boy, I get to see what its like for my wife when I'm at work for the day... I can't imagine what it would be like to be the primary care taker while daddy is gone for months or even years on end... Not to mention the stress of the constant "thoughts" Is daddy ok/safe? Hell we should probably have a special day just for the spouses/kids who are on the other end of this one. Good point Gilmore Happy.

I met my wife at an army school in 1980. I put in 20 years and one month and retired in 99. My wife put in 32 years and just retired last month. We would both do it again in a second and it was an honor to wear the uniform of this great country.
