I think my best sunflowers ever came from ones that I did not plant, eg: Squirrels taking them from the feeders and burying them in compost pile! :)
My best pumpkins came from the same pile, they grew from the kids Halloween pumkins that were discarded on the compost pile.

Beautiful pic of the sunflower. Must be in a protective area, cause the ones that sprout here don't stand a chance of getting no more than 5" tall.

This one is 5' tall and grows right next to the concrete deck, not really protected. I just can't believe it comes back every year and has multiple flowers on the one stock. I love sun flowers, but usually they droop and look sad after a couple of days. This one stands proud always. :D
 

I like them too... I remember driving down the roads in Spain and seeing an ocean of them - thousands of acres of sunflowers... man what a sight!
