Hello everyone! Been a really long day today. Actually at the time of this writing it WAS a really long day YESTERDAY. <grin> I had a nap about midday today so I'm wide awake now. *sigh*
This morning.. er Yesterday morning started off early with my wife agreeing to accompany me on a short hunt of a tot lot in a local park. Of course stopping to pick up breakfast on the way to the park might have had something to do with it. At any rate, we shared a nice fast food breakfast from a bag under a picnic shelter in the park as the sun was rising over the trees. The grass was still wet with dew from the night before, and aside from the park maintenance guys collecting trash bags from the trash cans and cleaning the restrooms nearby there wasn't a soul in the park. Well, there were the morning joggers, the morning dog walkers.. that kind of thing, but no crowds, no kiddies and nobody at all in or around the huge tot lot at this park. After finishing my breakfast and seeing that my wife was comfortably reading the morning paper, I geared up and headed up the hill to the tot lot. Sweeping the grass from the parking lot to the playground as I went.
I found pull tabs right off the bat.. typical. I wasn't finding a lot of change though, and I had rather hoped I would. A penny here, a penny there.. One lone nickle, that I almost didn't dig because of all the pull tabs. Just goes to show ya..
There were the various and assorted plastic beads and hair clasps that are so common in these playgrounds, and a ring! It was a cute little thing, but "junque" as so many call it. Constructed of wire and multicolored beads, it was (is) very small, a child's ring no doubt. Still searching (this is a BIG tot lot.. no kidding, it's probably close on being a quarter of an acre at least!).. still searching I found a few dimes and four clad quarters.. I found more pull tabs , and then I spied a little devil with VERY TIGHT PANTS! So tight that he was red in the face.. and all over.. except for the pants. <grin> It was one of those "accessories" buttons that people are putting in their foam rubber clogs (Crocs). Cute.
After covering the entirety of the Tot lot and even around some of the picnic tables off to one side under some small shade trees, I headed back towards the picnic shelter where my darling wife was just finishing up a phone conversation with her boss. Just outside of the wooden retaining wall (to hold the wood chips in) I got a signal for a target. It was showing a quarter at or on the surface. Well it was on the surface, sort of, it was just under the laid over grass. It was another ring! a small sterling silver butterfly with turquoise insets in the butterfly's wings. COOL! My wife gave me a funny look as I did the chicken dance. WOO HOO!. At that point I didn't know just how much clad and junk I had found, but a quick inventory showed just over a dollar and a half in coin, two rings, a couple of plastic stars (beads) a handfull of pull tabs and one little red devil with tight fitting pants. <shrug> It was fun, and I got in the hunt before it got too terribly hot.
Here are a couple of pics of today's finds. Today's rings make numbers four and five EVER! that I've found. Still no gold, but then there's always tomorrow!
Happy Hunting all !
