Hello fellow treasurefreaks ! The last time I posted was Nov. 7 th . I had started hunting a huge coastal farm that dates back to at least the late 18th century. The most notable find I posted from this site previously was a brass spur found amonst some other farm tack. Due to health reasons I did not hunt the rest of November. Then I had a close relative pass away and missed the first weekend of December also. The weather held though and I managed six hunts over the next three weeks. The last day hunted was Dec. 24th for 6 hours . This is a huge farm and finds are scattered. There were times I wondered if my MD was working as I could swing for 20 mins. at times in the fields without a signal. I had already decided to finish the job I started since these fields are getting developed soon . So these are my finds after spending another 30 or so hours swinging the fields and forests of this big site . One monkey off my back was my first found Spainish silver. A pillered half reale dated 1780 that was part of a two coin spill that came off a portion of the field that had crops planted on it this spring. The other coin in the spill was a 1780 3 sols billion coin that was minted in Paris for the Bourbon Isle's in the Indian ocean . An inportant West Indies trade stop back in the 17th and 18th centuries . It is in poor condition but It was good enough for a 100% ID.
Not a single large cent of any kind yet though
I thought I had one but it turned out to be the 1920's - 1940's Clipper Ale Token . Another favorite find from the site is the Peweter mermaid mug handle . Found deep down in the muck near an old rocked up spring . The pocket watch also came from this area on a subsequent hunt. I also came across evidence of shipbuilding and or repairing in one area near the tidal estuary. With a big brass rosehead spike and a couple forged spikes showing up along with a few nice wood working relics. One big silver. an 1908 Barber half and a buckle piece were really the only finds from the small gravel section of the tidal stream . The rest of the stream is deep mud and almost impossible to walk through let alone hunt . I still have quite alot of territory to hunt mostly fields and will keep you posted when I am able to work it again . Thanks for looking MaineRelic.
